Lesson One - Dulce Et Decorum Est

Lesson 1

Lesson 2

In the first part of this lesson, you studied the poem "Dulce Et Decorum Est" and the painting "Dressing Station in the Field" and worked through the steps involved in crafting a thesis statement in response to the question, "What does this text suggest to you about the forces that inhibit or encourage an individual’s actions?" for ONE of these texts.

Now that you have your thesis statement written, you are going to write a personal response to the question (topic) and the poem (text).

Although you have many options when writing a personal response to text - you may use any prose form you wish and write from a personal, creative, or analytical perspective - the amount of choices available can be overwhelming.

ELA 30-1 should be the course where you work on perfecting the prose format which one best suits YOUR writing style.

Keep in mind that the hybrid approach is also an option, which is a combination of analysis of a text and discussion of a personal experience.
