Final Project Information

What to do:

  1. Using your knowledge of the elements and principles of design and typography, create TWO (2) different visual compositions based on the theme of your choice (the two compositions need to be different but follow the same theme).  Some possible themes may include water, sports, pets, stairs, feet, etc. (you may choose any theme as long as it is appropriate for school).
  2. You will likely use two different programs or methods to create these compositions (i.e. you may choose 2 of the following: a video or animation or a poster (hand drawn and scanned or computer generated) or a photographic montage or another option of your choosing).  You will be responsible for learning the programs, not the whole program, just enough to create your visual compositions. (If you need help with the computer programs: ask a friend, ask your teacher, ask YouTube!)
  3. Between the two compositions you must use all of the elements and principles of design and topography that we looked at in this course at least once (this includes line, shape & form, space & shape, value, colour, texture & pattern, balance, emphasis, proportion, contrast, movement, unity and decorative and readable type).

NOTE**  All aspects of your work must be original to you.  You may not use any images from the Internet, clip art collections, etc.

Ensure that all of elements and principles of design and topography that are used have identifiable impact on the intent of the message.  Remember: Don’t use an element of design just to use it, ensure that you are using it because it enhances the design of your visual composition.

  1. You will need to label (where possible) and describe how you have used each element or principle of design or typography and how it impacts your message.  This will be done on the Final Project Marking Sheet in the student self-evaluation area.
  2. Additionally, on the self-evaluation form you will answer a few short questions about what went well with your project, any challenges you may have encountered, what you would do differently next time, and why you chose the subject and/or theme you did.
  3. Finally, before submitting your two (2) visual compositions, you will complete the student evaluation on the rubric on the final project marking sheet as well.
