Welcome to Grade 10-1 Social Studies!
It is a pleasure to be teaching you and I look forward to getting to know you better as the year progresses.
This course is centered around the main concept of Globalization. To begin this study, it is important to understand that individuals and groups of people express their identities in various ways. With today’s connected world people are exposed to other groups, cultures, ideas, belief systems and world views. Consequently, every individual must respond to the effects of globalization in a way that best defines his or her identity. - Explore ways in which individuals and collectives express identities (traditions, language, religion, spirituality, the arts, attire, relationship to land, ideological beliefs, role modeling)
- Acknowledge the importance of multiple perspectives in a variety of situations
- Identify the various ways that people in Canada express their identities
- Explore why people promote their culture and examine how globalization has shaped identities and cultures
- Analyze cultural communication in a globalized society.
