1. Introduction

Writing Assignment Type I

Big Idea: To what extent should we embrace an ideology?

Key issue: In Social Studies 30-2 You will be required to write 3 types of assignments on your diploma.  They include:

  • Type I: Sort, predict and place value
  • Type II: Interpret sources and defend a position on an issue
  • Type III: Analyze various points of view on an issue and defend your own position

Duration: 2 blocks (80 mins each + homework)

A major component of your diploma mark will be your ability to complete three types of written assignments.  This lesson is designed to teach you a formula for completing writing assignment type I.  You will be required to use the knowledge you learned in units 1-3 to successfully complete it.

Specifically, In Units 1 and 2 you learned about the economic system of classical liberalism.  Then at the beginning of unit 3 you learned about the problems with the system of classical liberalism and why individuals like Karl Marx rejected that philosophy.  In this lesson you will apply that knowledge while you learn about writing assignment type #1.
