In Canada our resources are our greatest asset. We have a large number of unique animals and plants. Rare flora and fauna are protected within the Canadian park system. Also Canadians have a history of managing resources such as wheat and cattle. The Canadian prairies are the bread basket of the world. Also cattle from Canada are noted for their strong genetic characteristics.
Our forests are also a huge natural resource. We need to protect the forests as much as possible. During prime forest fire seasons, water bombers are on call 24 hours a day.
Recent forest fires in Alberta have burned large areas of woodlands. Some of the lumber from the forest fire areas can be harvested as only the branches and outer bark has been burned. Once these areas are harvested, tree planters are hired to replant these areas with seedlings to allow for more rapid grow back.
A FORESTRY VIDEO FIELD TRIP
