Lesson 4

Module 3—Behaviour of Gases

Lesson Summary

In this lesson you investigated the following questions:

  • What is molar volume?
  • What is the difference between a real gas and an ideal gas?
  • What relationship exists between pressure, volume, temperature, and moles of gas?
In this lesson you further interpreted laws and relationships among pressure, volume, temperature and amount of gas. You learned that molar volume has a different value at different conditions of temperature and pressure. You learned what aspects constitute ideal behaviour of a gas and how the ideal gas law can be used to perform meaningful calculations, some of which focused on ensuring safety for people using compressed gases.
