Understanding conflict within societies requires in depth analysis. The following questions are designed to help you explore societal conflict in more detail.

Open a Word document and paste the following questions along with your responses.
Label the assignment E102U3L5surname and submit this to the Assignment Folder labeled U3L5 Unit Questions.
Answer any of four of the following questions....
1. From the literary works within this unit, identity two cultural or discriminatory issues (clashes between cultures) and explain how they contributed to conflicts between different societies.
2. Explain how any two of the following poetic devices, used in "Drumming for Mandela", enhance the poem's meaning: onomatopoeia, paradox, simile, and metaphor.
3. At the beginning of his essay, Billy and Us, the author poses the following question: "why should I care?" After reading the essay, a Billy and Us, what is your own answer to this question?
4. Analyze the images in the graphic art entitled, The Trial of Duncan C. Scott. What is the meaning of text (visual) and how do the images reflect this meaning? In other words, what is the main message that is being presented in the picture?
5. Identify what you believe to be the best strategies when resolving conflict. Refer to one or more literary works, from this unit, and explain which conflict strategies were appropriate or inappropriate and explain why.
6. Is there anger in any of the First Nations works that you read? Is there healing? Discuss with reference to at least one literary work from this unit.
7. What makes it possible for ordinary citizens to allow cultural suppression, violence and genocide to occur? In other words, how do discriminatory acts such as the implementation of the Chinese Head Tax, Japanese Internment or Native Residential Schools occur? Discuss with reference to one or more literary works.
