Introduction

firefighterLesson One - Cold Missouri Waters
Duration - 3 blocks (3 x 80 min + homework)

"Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means, effort, pain, difficulty . . . I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life.  I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well." - Theodore Roosevelt

Much literature suggests that having to face our fears is a common experience. In this unit, through the study of various pieces of text, we are going to consider the question, "What is your opinion of the idea that confronting our fears provides us with a sense of achievement?"

In this first lesson of Unit Four, you are going to take a look at the difference between men who were able to face their fears and those who went to their deaths because they were not.

“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”
― Theodore Roosevelt
