Course Orientation

In this course you will learn about workplace safety, hazard management, and legislation. This course is a prerequisite for any off-campus learning experience and is meant to prepare you for your experience.

Guiding Questions: What is a workplace health and safety management system? How do I identify, assess, and control hazards in the workplace? What are my legal rights and responsibilities at work?

Assessment

This course, HCS3000:, Workplace Safety Systems, is worth one credit and generally takes students between 17 and 25 hours to complete, though that time varies depending on the student.

The course is divided into training rooms. Each training room has one or more guiding questions, and is meant to focus on a group of related concepts. Each training room has a project or assignment associated with it.

Work through each of the sections of the course carefully. This will assist you in completing the assignment for each section. A portion of your final grade in this course will be based on each of these assignments. You must successfully complete each section to receive credit for this course.

Your teacher will provide you with a detailed outline of how you will be assessed in this course.

Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship involves being a responsible and participative citizen in your online course. At the end of the course, you will be asked to rate yourself for each of the following categories:

Project Descriptions

Project 1: Workplace Health and Safety Management Systems
In this project you will be required to perform a health and safety plan inspection for a specific workplace.

Project 2: Hazard Identification, Assessment, and Control
In this project you will research different types of hazards, assessment, and control of hazards and complete a workplace hazard assessment and control plan.

Project 3: Workplace Legislation
In this project you will identify your legal rights and responsibilities, and the legislation that protects you at work.

Project 4: Glossary of Terms
In this project you will create a glossary of terms related to workplace safety and explain them.

This section will supply you with suggestions for further help or with examples.

This section in the training room asks you to complete a series of questions and/or reflections regarding the material presented in that training room. Completing these questions will ensure that you have the understanding necessary to complete the project associated with that training room.

 

Checking My Work

This section provides opportunities for you to check your depth of understanding of new concepts learned in the lessons and make connections to prior learning. This section helps you to assess the quality of your work and make decisions about what to do and where to go next.

 

Lesson Glossary

This section highlights concepts and terms associated with the training rooms.

 

Project

This section will present instructions for completing the project.
