Training Room 1: Workplace Health and Safety Management Systems

Objectives

Once you are done this section, you will be able to describe, explain, and identify workplace health and safety systems, including the following:

  1. the eight (8) elements of a health and safety system
  2. the implications of each element

Purpose

The purpose of a health and safety management system is to identify, assess, and control workplace hazards. To be effective, the following components are essential:

  • analysis of health and safety hazards at the work site
  • control measures to eliminate or reduce risks from hazards
  • clearly stated company policy and management commitment
  • worker competency and training
  • an inspection program
  • emergency response planning
  • incident investigation
  • program administration

Project 1: Workplace Health and Safety Management Systems

Project Introduction

In this training room you learned more about health and safety plans, and their role in keeping workplaces safe. In this project you will be required to perform a health and safety plan inspection specific to a work setting.

In this project you will complete a health and safety assessment of your school or workplace.

Summative Assessment

When marking project assignments, the teacher will consider the extent to which you do the following:

  • Organize information in an appropriate way, including an introduction, body, and conclusion.
  • Communicate ideas clearly and correctly, including citing references.
Your assignment will be marked as complete when it meets these criteria.
