Final Project 1: Mail Merge Letter
Now that you have practised and expanded your word-processing skills, you are ready to use those skills to help you enter the workforce.
Imagine that you have found the following three ads in the Classifieds section of your local newspaper. Apply for these three positions using the Cover Letter document you have already created in this course, and the Mail Merge function in Microsoft Word.
HELP WANTED Smartech Strategic Technical Support is looking for a Jr. Administrative Assistant. We require a person with experience in Microsoft Office and the ability to work in an environment that requires quick thinking. All other training is provided on the job. Step 1: Open the Cover Letter you have saved in your INF2050: WP 2: Letters folder or the Cover Letter you reviewed in the last training room.
Step 2: Use the Mail Merge function to customize your cover letter to apply for all three of the positions described above.
Step 3: Create a data source for the employers using information from the three job ads.
Step 4: Save the data source as “fpdata” in your INF2050: WP 2: Final Project folder.
Step 5: Position your merge fields in your letter.
Step 6: Save your cover letter document, showing the mail merge fields, as “Cover 1” in your INF2050: WP 2: Final Project folder.
Step 7: Review the document and make any necessary changes to ensure that you have used the proper layout, format, and information.
Step 8: Complete the Mail Merge.
Step 9: Save your document as “Jobs” in your INF2050: WP 2: Final Project folder.
