Big Picture
Big Picture
Organic molecules, apart from being an important part of living systems, are also useful for a wide variety of purposes from the production of automotive fuels and lubricants to the production of food material and clothing. In this module we will investigate the properties, nomenclature, types and the uses of organic molecules.
Module 3 Inquiry
- What is a hydrocarbon ?
- What are different types of hydrocarbon ?
- How do we identify specific hydrocarbons ?
- What are some uses for organic molecules ?
Lesson 1.3.1
Lesson 1 - Carbon Chains
Get Focused
In this lesson you will be investigating the basic structure of hydrocarbons and how that structure allows for the construction of a variety of useful organic molecules.
Consider the following essential questions as you complete Lesson 1:
- What is a hydrocarbon?
- What is an organic molecule ?
- Why is carbon a unique atom ?
- How do multiple bond affect the nomenclature of organic compounds
