In This Module

Introduction to the Module you will investigate changing climate by completing the following lessons and activities.

 

Outline the contents of the module by lesson, any resources etc.

Lesson 1 – The Great Cooling/ The Icy Epoche

Lesson 2 – Explaining and Predicting Climate Change

Lesson 3 - Unit Review

Once you have completed these lessons you will submit the assignment for each lesson and complete the unit 3 quiz.

Big Picture

The Earth's climate has not always been as we see it today. There have been periods when the climate of any particular area could have fluctuated from tropical to being covered by hundreds of feet of ice. Fossilized palm leaves have been found both in Greenland and Antarctica. What has been the cause of such dramatic climate change ? In this module we will look into various ice ages and examine climate change as we see it today.

Lesson 1- The Great Cooling/ The Icy Epoche

There have been periods in Earth's history when a large part of the planet was covered with a thick layer of ice. In this lesson we are going to investigate some of these periods and start to understand the dynamics of an ice age.

Unit 3 Conclusion

In this unit you have investigated various types of change and learned some ways that change is measured and/or estimated. We looked at information that can be gathered from various types of fossils as well as dating techniques that help us get a handle on the age of fossils and rocks. We also looked at factors connected with the creation of Earthquakes and how Earthquakes are analyzed and measured. Lastly we looked at the various factors thought to influence climate change.
