Key Issue
To what extent can internationalism effectively address contemporary global issues?
There are many contemporary global issues, many of which we have studied in this unit. These contemporary global issues include the following:
- Climate Change
- The Spread of Disease
- Access to Water
- Control over Water
The next step is to determine how internationalism has been used to address contemporary global concerns, and analyze whether it is always the most effective way of handling them.

Many contemporary global issues are so complex that even national governments are unable to deal with them. For this reason, countries often choose to work with the international community to tackle challenges such as poverty, hunger, disease, debt, climate change, human rights and conflict.

Millennium Development Goals for 2015
In 2015, the UN established a 2nd set of development goals.
The 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world:
GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
These goals, which were to be achieved by 2030 followed the "Millennium Development Goals" that were set to be achieved by 2015. NONE of them were.
