Welcome to the Reproductive System

This unit is all about the reproductive system. You'll learn about the various structures of the reproductive system and their respective functions. You'll also learn about a fertilized egg develops all the way until birth.

Follow the directions in each of the lessons in the table of contents. Do everything listed on each page as doing it all will help you learn the information well. If you do the minimum through these lessons you'll find much difficulty through this course.

Each lesson may have a video, a practice worksheet, a quiz, activity etc. and they are all there to help you understand the information better. If you see something highlighted in blue, it is a hyperlink for you to click. If you see something highlighted in green, it is also a link to click and it is an assignment/quiz which will be for marks.

Lesson 1 - Male Reproductive System

In this lesson you will learn about

1. Watch this video to learn about the male reproductive system. If you find that he talks too fast you can open this same video on YouTube and click on the settings wheel at the bottom left of the video to reduce the playback speed. 

2. Once you've watched the video answer the questions from this document. These questions will help make sure that you correctly understand the information from the lesson.

3. Read Chapter 14 pages 478-481 and 492-495 from the textbook for a deeper understanding of this material.

4. Complete the male reproductive system self check. It is not for marks, but it will give you an understanding of the things that you need to know from this lesson and how well you currently understand it.

5. Complete the sperm story assignment.

Lesson 2 - Female Reproductive System

In this lesson you will learn about

1. Watch this video to learn about the female reproductive system. 

2. Once you've watched the video answer the questions from this document. These questions will help make sure that you correctly understand the information from the lesson. This document has questions combined from this lesson and the next lesson, so do the ones that are relevant to this lesson.

3. Read Chapter 14 pages 481-485 and 495-499 from the textbook for a deeper understanding of this material.

4. Complete the female reproductive system self check. It is not for marks, but it will give you an understanding of the things that you need to know from this lesson and how well you currently understand it.

Lesson 3 - The Menstrual Cycle

In this lesson you will learn about

1. Watch this video to learn about the menstrual cycle.


2. Once you've watched the video answer the questions from this document. These questions will help make sure that you correctly understand the information from the lesson. Complete all the questions in this document that you did not finish from lesson 2.

3. Read Chapter 14 pages 495-499 from the textbook for a deeper understanding of this material.

4. Once you have learned the information from this lesson, complete the menstrual cycle lab assignment.

5. Now that you have learned all about the structures and functions from both the male and female reproductive systems, complete the fertility issues assignment and the lesson 1-3 quiz. After this, you will move onto lesson 4.

Lesson 4 - Fertilization

In this lesson you will learn about

1. Watch this video to learn about the process of fertilization and of early embryonic development. 


2. Once you've watched the video answer the questions from this document. These questions will help make sure that you correctly understand the information from the lesson.

3. Read Chapter 15 pages 508-518 from the textbook for a deeper understanding of this material. This document has questions combined from this lesson and the next lesson, so do the ones that are relevant to this lesson.

4. Once you have learned the information from this lesson, complete the fertilization self-check.

Lesson 5 - Fetal Development

In this lesson you will learn about

1. a) Watch this video to learn about the stages of pregnancy. 


b) Watch this video to see how the embryo/fetus develops through pregnancy. You do not have to memorize everything from this video, but know the main points for each of the trimesters. 

2. Once you've watched the video answer the questions from this document. These questions will help make sure that you correctly understand the information from the lesson. Complete all the questions in this document that you did not finish from lesson 2.

3. Read Chapter 15 pages 520-528 from the textbook for a deeper understanding of this material.

4. Complete the R4/5 Fetal development lab. 

5. Once you are done all the learning and practicing from this lesson, complete the next two assignments,

a) environmental impacts on prenatal development and

b) embryo development gizmo assignment.

Lesson 6 - Fertility

In this lesson you will learn about

1. a) Watch this video to learn about in vitro fertilization. 

b) Watch this video to learn about surrogacy. 

2. Read Chapter 14 pages 486-490 and Chapter 15 pages 529-534 from the textbook for a deeper understanding of this material.

3. Now that you have finished the learning for this lesson, complete the enhancing fertility assignment.

4. You have now finished learning about the reproductive system. You now need to complete one last quiz from lesson 4-6. Then, study up, because next is the unit test.

Review: Reproductive System

Before doing the unit test, make sure to go through these resources to make sure that you know what you know, and that you know what you don't know.

The first step is to go through the detailed reproductive system notes to make sure you're familiar with all the points learned throughout the unit.

Finally, go through the concept guide. The concept guide has just a few things listed on it, and you will want to be able to read the the words and be able to explain the processes/ define the words. you want to be able to explain and define everything on the concept guide without looking at the PowerPoint/textbook readings.

You are now through the reproductive system, and can study for the test for this unit. Contact your teacher to set a time for you to write the unit B test. Once done, you'll begin unit 3, which is about cellular division, genetics, and DNA.
