This lesson deals with the connection between ideology and identity. It explores factors that might influence our individual and collective beliefs and values, such as our physical environment or our cultural backgrounds, that shape our experiences and our attitudes.

2. Lesson
This course is about you, your values, beliefs and ideas about what is important in life, who gets to make decisions and how decisions are made, and what your dreams and vision of the future are. In other words your ideology. We are going to begin our study of ideology by looking at the 9 factors that influence YOUR beliefs and values.

Congratulations! You have completed your first learning objective in Social Studies 30-2. You now know that there are 9 factors that influence your beliefs and values. They are:
- Religion
- Language
- Environment
- Gender
- Culture
- Relationship to land
- Media
- Ideology
- Spirituality
You have also reflected on which of the above factors have had an influence on your personal identity. Some factors may be more significant in your life than others and that is okay.
