The Art Gallery of Alberta, in Edmonton, was designed by the architectural firm of Randall Stout. Constructed of glass, stainless steel, and zinc, this building was intended to become one with its environment, whether in summer or in winter.

The galley’s design incorporates a variety of geometric forms. Looking at the photograph, you will be able to pick out numerous angles, polygons, intersected parallel lines, and triangles, all of which you explored in detail in Unit 3.

You will recall that the theme for Unit 3 was the geometry of games, sport, art, and design. In your Unit 3 Project you examined a topic in detail, selecting and applying geometry concepts explored during this unit.

In Module 5 you explored angles—their classification and their relationships. In particular, you investigated the relationships among angles formed when parallel lines are intersected by a transversal.

In Module 6 you explored similar polygons and triangles. As well, you analyzed right triangles from both the perspective of similarity and the Pythagorean Theorem.

In Module 7, based on similarity among right triangles, you studied the trigonometry of the right triangle. You solved a wide selection of practical problems applying the trigonometric ratios of sine, cosine, and tangents. The last lesson of this module involved geometric games and puzzles. Perhaps you might have selected one of these games or puzzles in your analysis for the Unit 3 Project.

Contact your teacher to confirm that you have completed all the requirements for Unit 3. After completing these requirements, you will be prepared to go on to Unit 4.
