Watch the following tutorial

Read portions o Chapter Twelve pages 279-285 and 294-297 and answer the following questions:

1. Define the following terms:
     A) Sustainable prosperity
     B) Global Climate Change

2. Identify and completely explain the three main indicators used to measure prosperity throughout the world.

3. In order to answer the next question, re-read the opinions expressed on page 284 and think back to previous lessons. Can the difference between access to clean water for Aboriginal people in Canada and the general Canadian population be attributed in some ways to historical globalization? Support your answer using specific historical events or data.

4. Read the cartoon on page 284 and explain the message Jeff Parker, the cartoonist, is trying to convey.  Support it with reference to the cartoon.

5. What is trade liberalization? Include an example in your explanation.

6. What is privatization? Include an example in your answer.

7. What is your opinion regarding the privatization of water? Defend your positions with evidence.

Assignment

Open a new Word document. Label it SS10U3L4.surname
Once you have viewed all of the links and learned about the environmental issues presented, complete the following assignment in a Word document and post to the assignment folder entitled  U3L4 Enviro Tips.

  • create a list of 10 Tips or Changes every individual can make to help improve or reduce damage to the environment
  • briefly explain the rationale behind each change (see examples, below) and provide source

2. View the Global Warming simulation and then select the See How It Works link to learn more about the Greenhouse Effect.

Once you have completed this, view the Effects of Global Warming and then take the National Geographic Global Warming Quiz.

Conclusion

Throughout Unit Three, the focus has been to help develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that are necessary for you to think critically and respond appropriately to the issue of sustaining prosperity for all people. As as student, you should also start evaluating your own actions and consider to what extent you should embrace globalization.
