Writing Assignment Type II
Issue Question: Are the values of liberalism viable?
Writing Assignment Type II will require you to demonstrate the skills of:
- Interpreting
- Evaluating
- Synthesizing
Duration: 2 blocks (80 mins each + homework)
Written Response, also known as Part A of your diploma exam, is worth 50% of your diploma exam grade. The written response is comprised of 3 separate writing assignments. In this lesson you will become familiar with the format and process of writing assignment type II.

This is super important information for PART A of your diploma exam. Carefully review and read this lesson. Also, write it down somewhere. Feel free to ask questions about how to write assignment type II responses.
Writing Assignment Type II will require you to demonstrate the skills of:
- Interpreting
- Evaluating
- Synthesizing
The Writing Assignment Type II format includes:
- Three visual sources (graph, photograph, cartoon, and/or poster)
- Students are to use details from the three sources and your understanding of Social Studies to defend a position
The recommended length of time to spend on Writing Assignment Type II is approximately 40-45 minutes.
The recommended word count is between 375 and 900 words.
Read and review the notes on the Tic-Tac-Toe method of analyzing visual sources.

With the successful conclusion of this lesson you now know the format and method for writing all 3 assignments for Part A of your diploma exam. Remember to use the case studies from the course as well as Social Studies terminology when you are writing your exam.
