Unit A

Module 1 ~ Lesson 1

 Summary

In this lesson you explored the following essential questions:

  • What processes do producers use to harness energy?

  • How is energy distributed through the biosphere?

Since the vast majority of photoautotrophs capture and store solar energy, it is safe to say that solar energy maintains life in the biosphere. It is necessary for the right conditions to be present so that this vital process of capturing and storing energy can continue. You also looked at how solar energy is distributed outside of photosynthesis. Like everything in biology, there is a need for homeostasis-balance, equilibrium, and maintaining a steady state. If any part of the big picture was to go missing, this equilibrium is disrupted.
