Make a list of five or six characteristics of a “stereotypical” person from your chosen country. Examples for an American person could be:
  • Drinks Coke
  • Goes to baseball games
  • Watches CNN

For a Canadian, it might be:
  • Drinks coffee and eats Timbits
  • Goes to hockey games
  • Watches CBC

What makes something a stereotype? Can stereotypes be positive or neutral, or are they always negative?

Share your own original ideas about these questions, as well as the list of stereotypical characteristics, with your teacher on the next page.
