Why learn about chronic conditions? Chronic conditions can impact many aspects of a person's life and can even lead to death. Of the following top ten causes of death in Canada in 2018 notice how many are caused by chronic conditions, marked in bold:- Malignant neoplasms (Cancer)
- Diseases of the heart
- Cerebrovascular disease
- Accidents
- Chronic lower respiratory diseases
- Influenza and pneumonia
- Diabetes mellitus
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Intentional self-harm (suicide)
- Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis (kidney diseases)
Knowing about chronic conditions and the topics discussed in this course can help you develop a plan to decrease your chance of developing a chronic disease in the future.
