Mercantilism is an economic system that allowed an imperial
country to become rich by selling the resources taken from its colonies.
In simpler terms, mercantilism is the importance of trade to an economy.
How does trade benefit companies and consumers?
- Companies in Canada benefit from trading with other countries by exporting and importing goods, and consumers benefit by being able to buy things at lower prices.
How does Alberta’s economy use trade to create jobs?
-
We export things such as oil, beef, and grain and we import things such as computers, cars, and clothing.
- We create jobs through activities involving agriculture and natural resources. The more demand to produce these supplies to other countries, the more demand for employment in these sectors.
