As you learned in Lesson 2, a new National Policy was developed in 1878 that consisted of three main components. Transportation was the first part of this policy.


The other two parts of the policy are discussed in this lesson.

  • Immigration Policy - formed to encourage new farmers to settle in Western Canada
  • Economic Policy - formed to build a strong national economy for Canadians
