Looking Backward, Looking Forward
Looking Backward
In this course you explored the social-emotional and creative developmental areas. You studied physical, intellectual, and language development in CCS3120. You know that development in one area affects development in other areas.
In addition to learning about social-emotional and creative development, you had opportunities to explore how children’s development can be promoted through play, especially when child care providers do the following:
-
observe the children
-
set up developmentally appropriate activities that match the children’s interests
-
become involved in, but do not control, the children’s play
This course also covered the importance of involving all children, including those with diverse needs. As a child care provider, it is important to always remember that all children have the potential to learn, but each child is unique and develops at his or her own pace. It is your role to be attentive to the needs of all children in your care and to ensure that each child is nurtured.
Course Project: Strategies Box
It’s time to review the contents of your strategies box and then to complete the self-assessment under the following learning activity.
Learning Activity: Reflecting on My Skills
Directions
Step 1: Review your work from each of the sessions. Remember to include the feedback you received from your peers and from your teacher in your review.
Step 2: As you look back through your work and feedback, indicate how well you demonstrated your understanding of the basic competencies on the Student Rubric for Basic Competencies Demonstrated in CCS3130.
Checking In
Save a copy of your self-assessment in your course folder.
Looking Forward
Remember that if you are interested in being eligible for certification as a Child Development Assistant, you must also successfully complete CCS3140 and CCS3150.
CCS3140 focuses on examining family dynamics and issues and on developing skills to support and promote the cultural identities of children in child care programs.
