Introduction
Key Issue
To what extent have visions of Canadian Identity evolved?
You have now developed understandings of the concepts of identity, nation, nation-state, nationalism and internationalism. Some experts believe that contending nationalist loyalties cause much of the conflict in the world as nation struggles against nation. Others view nationalism more positively, arguing that a sense of nation and nationalism creates bonds among people that foster security and well-being. No matter what, nationalism affects your life, so the best we can do is be as educated about the issues surrounding it as possible!

LESSON
“Canadians, like their historians, have spent too much time remembering conflicts, crises, and failures. They forgot the great, quiet continuity of life in a vast and generous land. A cautious people learns from its past; a sensible people can face its future. Canadians, on the whole, are both.”
– Desmond Morton

Conclusion
Multiculturalism is a cornerstone of Canadian society. As we have learned, multiculturalism has its positives and negatives, its supporters and opponents, but one thing is certain: we can learn important lessons and gain insight from the contributions of immigrants from around the world.
