Critical Thinking

Just like you, the characters in literature have many unique qualities: they have values and they have goals. They are focused on their future.

The Assignment

Step 1: Read and make notes on the Character tutorial.

Step 2: Read and make notes on the tutorial about "Understanding Characters" on pp. 53-56 and information about characters on pp. 121-122 in Reading and Writing for Success.

Step 3: Select one of the two stories you didn't use for your 6.1 Setting assignment. Retell the story from another character's perspective (the character must be present in the story). Be creative—add details that are not already present that would provide context for your chosen character's current life.
Note:  When writing from either perspective, you would be re-telling from this character's point of view. When you take on someone's point of view, you will use "I" because you are writing as if you are the character.

Step 4: Review pp. 181-183 of Reading and Writing for Success on how to format dialogue. Review pp. 222-224 for how to punctuate dialogue. Make revisions and edit your story for spelling, mechanics, and grammar.

Step 5: Submit your story for assessment.
