Step 2: Read and make notes on the tutorial about "Understanding Characters" on
pp. 53-56 and information about characters on pp. 121-122 in
Reading and Writing for Success.
Step 3: Select one of the two stories you didn't use for your 6.1 Setting assignment. Retell the story from another character's
perspective (the character must be present in the story). Be creative—add details that are not already present that
would provide context for your chosen character's current life.
Note: When writing from either perspective, you would be
re-telling from this character's point of view. When you take on someone's point of view, you
will use "I" because you are writing as if you are the character.
Step 4: Review pp. 181-183 of Reading and Writing for Success on how to format dialogue. Review pp. 222-224 for how to punctuate dialogue. Make revisions and edit your story for spelling, mechanics, and grammar.
Step 5: Submit your story for assessment.
- Review the Short Stories tutorial and specifically the section titled "Point of View".
- Use the text version of the Character organizer from the Character tutorial.
- Review the list of character traits on the second page of this attachment.
- Name your assignment Lastname, FirstnameELA101_6.2Character.
- Submit your assignment for assessment.
- If you are submitting a Google document, copy and paste the sharing link into the online text space. Ensure share settings are set to "Anyone with the link can comment."
