Completion requirements
What will completing this diary entry help you to know, understand, and do?
Know - will assist you in knowing that readers make connections to various texts
Understand - will help you to understand that we can learn more about ourselves and others through text connection
Do - will enable you to reflect upon, and communicate a personal experience that may be similar to that of others, using proper sentence structure and proper paragraph format
Time to Write
Writing to ourselves allows us the opportunity to reflect and think about ourselves and our lives. Diary entries are a simple way for us to work through this process.
In your 1.2 assignment reading, Sultana Yusufali shows a great sense of courage by making her own choices regardless of how others may view her. In this assignment, you will create a diary entry where you will share a time when you have shown your own inner courage. Your diary entry must be written in proper paragraph format, and must fully explain your display of inner courage. Your writing can be about anything you have done or plan to do that shows your inner courage, and it does not have to be exactly like Sultana's shared experience.
Note: When you are addressing a given discussion topic, you always need to reference your topic throughout your piece. I need to see the words "inner courage" in your introduction, body, and conclusion. Your discussion topic should always go "full circle," meaning that you introduce your topic, support your topic, and conclude your topic.

Step 1: Examine the 1.3 Diary Entry Rubric before
you begin this work, to see how your assignment will be assessed.
You should review assignment rubrics before you begin work, and yet
again as a last check strategy before you submit your work. The rubric
is your checklist to ensure you have met all assignment requirements. I
suggest that you need only review the excellent categories of the
rubric, as this is the ultimate goal for your work. This means less
reading, and allows you to read it closely with attention to detail.
Step 2: Review the 1.3 Student Exemplar and Assessment. Review the
information about "Theme" on page 2 of your Unit 1 Section 1 Short Notes.
Step 3: Consider your new knowledge about sentence structure and proper paragraph format. Write
your own well developed diary entry that discusses a time when you showed inner courage. Your ideas must be clearly introduced, supported, and concluded.
Step 4: Review the Writing Tips course page, where you can download the Editing Checklist,
and use the given writing tips to assist you with the editing and revision of your writing. Make sure your sentence structure is correct and varied.
Step 5: Save your assignment as FirstnameLastname1.3Diary.
Step 6: Submit your assignment for marking in the space provided.
