3.3 Experiencing Rhythm and Rhyme in Poetry
Completion requirements
Experiencing Rhythm & Rhyme in Poetry!
Writers’ work most often reflects something of their personal lives. For some this is just a glimpse, and for others, their life experiences are woven heavily throughout their works. If we recall Alden Nowlan’s quote, it makes sense that if we are to
write about what we feel “deepest and hardest,” we must have some experience of it to share.
For this assignment, you will view a YouTube video that shares a very famous poem from the famous American poet, Edgar Allan Poe. Poe’s writing often had repeating themes. Lost love, death, or murder were often his topics of choice. He is considered to be a “dark” poet, and his works are famous world wide. You will experience this poem and analyze its connection to Poe’s real life, as well as to understand some of the powerful poetic techniques he incorporates into his work. Enjoy!!
