In this assignment, read the paragraph below and answer the questions that follow.
Canada's National Sport
For many Canadians, our "national sport" is hockey. As a matter of fact, however, a game played by First Nations people across the continent from time immemorial was declared "Canada's National Game" over 145 years ago. The name of that game, you ask? Lacrosse!
1. Identify a word in the paragraph that some readers might find difficult. What is a strategy you would suggest a reader could try to make sense of the word? /2
2. If this were the opening paragraph of a longer essay on lacrosse, what are two questions you can think of that might be answered in the body of the essay? /2
3. If you were to research lacrosse, design the graphic organizer you might use to arrange your information. (You do not need to do the research, but fill in examples of the kind of ideas or information you would want to include in your research). As you are designing the organizer, use this Rubric that your teacher will use to mark your work. /10
