Satire is a type of humour that makes fun of society and the often silly attitudes that are commonly expressed.

Marking Guide:
In this assignment, think about ads that appeal to your emotions and answer the following questions:
1. Find three different print ads. Which advertising technique(s) do they use to convince you to buy the product? Explain your answer. /9
2. We know that ads sometimes suggest quite unrealistic or unbelievable things that could happen to us if we bought a certain product. (For example, we could be incredibly gorgeous, super muscular, extremely happy, or popular, or …). Satire is a type of humour that makes fun of society and the often silly attitudes that are commonly expressed.
Find an ad that you think suggests some unrealistic or ridiculous results that will come to the person who buys the product. Then create an ad that satirizes the claims of the real ad.
You could do this by illustrating the opposite result the ad suggests or by exaggerating the positive results the ad predicts. (For example, you could satirize an ad for toothpaste by having a model with black teeth and bad breath, or you could have a model with such a bright smile that the people around him or her cannot see. Do not use these examples!)
Include both the real ad and your satirical version when submitting your assignment. (The assignment is probably easiest to do with print ads, but video or audio ads could be satirized as well, if you wish.) /10
