Lesson 15 β Activity 3: Self-check
Completion requirements
In this Self-check Activity, analyze advertisements to determine the target audience.
Read the following:
Notice that any time you watch a TV show, it is frequently interrupted by commercials. TV executives make careful decisions about what commercials are aired during each TV show because they want the ad to appeal to the showβs target audience.
In other words, these television execs know that certain types of people will watch the show, so they want to show ads for products that those types of people will buy! In a moment, you will view three television commercials. Letβs assume that each one of these advertisements is shown during the SAME television show. Based on these advertisements, who would you say is the target audience for that television show?
Once you have viewed all three commercials, fill in this chart by circling the various audience groups in each category you think are being
targeted. If you think more than one group
in each category is being targeted, feel free to circle more than one. Think about who would most likely purchase the products advertised.
Check your answers with a friend or your teacher. See what audience groups THEY think are being targeted.
