Consider these questions before you begin:
In this assignment, imagine you are one of the characters in the movie Freedom Writers and you have been asked to speak to others your age about your experience in school. You will record your speech for your teacher.
Consider these questions before you begin:
- Who will read or hear my speech? (Who is the audience?)
- Why am I writing this speech? (What is the purpose? to inform, persuade, describe, entertain?)

- Then think about the following, as you prepare to give your speech.
- Make sure you have all of your information prepared in advance. Use cue cards!
- Know your purpose/goal.
- Plan what you will say and how you will say it. Adjust your volume and pacing (how fast you speak) to make an impact where it's important to do so.
- Practise the speech ahead of time.
- When the recording begins, speak carefully and clearly.
- Make sure others can understand and hear you.
