In this project, you will design a playground. You are required to submit this project to your teacher for marks. Very carefully, read the

Situation
Your community wants to build a new playground especially for older children and young teens ages 9 to 13. The adults in charge of this project want input from young people such as you about the types of structures that would make a fun and safe playground.

Project Task
Design a playground for children aged 9 to 13.

- The design of the playground should show imagination and creativity.
- The playground must be designed with safety features.
Before you begin your design, ask yourself these questions:
"What would be a fun playground for me and my friends?"
"How can this playground be fun but very safe?"

Method
Choose the way you would like to communicate your playground design. Here are some ideas from which you can choose:

- Build a model. Photograph or video your model to share with your teacher.
- Draw pictures with pencil and paper, or use a computer drawing program such as Adobe Photoshop or Gimp.
- Build a structure in Minecraft and take screenshots.
- Write a detailed description or story about your design.
- Use other creative ideas, but check with your teacher first!

- You can provide written answers to these questions.
- You can include the answers as labels if you decide to do a drawing of your design.
- You can address these questions by recording yourself (and your model and/or drawings) on video.
- You can make an audio recording in which you explain your design very clearly.
You must communicate clearly the following information about your playground design.
- What are the functions of the various play structures in your playground?
- How is your playground aesthetically pleasing?
- What kinds of static and dynamic loads are on your playground structures?
- What structural components to support the loads are incorporated into the design? For example, what types of shapes and what types of beams are you using?
- What materials will you use to build the playground? Why did you choose these materials? How does your choice of materials match the function of your structure?
- What types of fixed and flexible joints are in your playground? How did you decide what types of joints to use?
- What safety features are included in your playground to minimize the risk of injury?
