The Body of the Report!
Locate your rough draft where you wrote your introduction, and continue this assignment in the same document.
Assignment:
- You have written the introduction to your report, now you need to write the body paragraphs of your report. Locate your rough draft with your introduction. You were instructed to either type it and save it or write it on paper.
- Look at your research documents and find the information you researched for the DUTIES, WORKING CONDITIONS, PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS, EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, and OTHER INTERESTING INFORMATION (such as wages and locations of work) for the career you are writing about. Each of these areas will become a paragraph in your report (so you will have five body paragraphs).
- Use the information you researched to write a paragraph for each of these topics. You will write five paragraphs.
- Remember to start each paragraph with a topic sentence, and then add the supporting details. You may also know some duties not listed in the research. You can add what you know about the duties of your career here as well.
-
When you have written the five paragraphs, you will have completed the entire body of your report!
Before you begin to write your own paragraphs, click on the tabs below see sample paragraphs. Use them to help you build your body paragraphs for your own report.
Look at your research documents and find the DUTIES for the
career you are writing about. You may also know some duties not listed
in the research. You can add what you know about the duties of your
career here as well. Work on writing three to five sentences about the duties, and make sure you have a topic sentence.
Here is an example of a body paragraph on duties of a hairstylist:
Hairstylists
perform many duties in their day-to-day work. Their main focus is
cutting and styling hair for clients of all ages. Other duties may
include: washing and blow drying hair, colouring hair, creating fancy
up-do styles for weddings and other special occasions, and just doing a "set", which involves a style without a cut. Hairstylists also must take
care of their environment. They have to clean, do laundry, order
supplies and handle money from their clients. They may also have to
answer the phone and make appointments. There are many duties
hairstylists do each day in their work.
Look at your research documents and find the WORKING CONDITIONS for the
career you are writing about. You may also know something about working
conditions not listed in the research, add what you know here as well. Work on writing three to five sentences about the working conditions.
Here is an example of a body paragraph on the working conditions of a hairstylist:
The
working conditions of a hairstylist are considered quite safe and
comfortable. Hairstylists work indoors. They are on their feet all day
long so comfortable footwear is very important to help prevent sore feet
and backs. Some things to consider might be that they often work with
chemicals that could be harmful if not used properly. They also have
their hands in water often, which can lead to dry skin. Hairstylists require
good lighting to do their work. Overall, hairstylists have very safe and
comfortable working conditions.
Look at your research documents and find the Personal Characteristics you should have to work as a hairstylist. Work on writing three to five sentences about personal characteristics.
Here is an example of a body paragraph on personal characteristics:
Hairstylists need to have many different personal characteristics in order to succeed. For example, as hairstylists work with many different types of people, they need to be patient and enjoy working with others. Also, as the demands of a hairstylist are to stand all day and sometimes go without breaks, they need the physical stamina to last in such a job. Hairstylists also need to keep up to date with the new hair fashions, supplies, equipment, and technology. As you can see, not everybody might be cut out for this type of work!
Look at your research documents and find the EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS for the career you are writing about. Work on writing three to five sentences about the educational requirements.
Here is a sample body paragraph on educational requirements:
According
to ALIS information on hairstylists in Alberta, there are a number of
requirements to meet before you can begin work. You must be a registered
apprentice, a certified journeyperson, or someone who holds a recognized
trade certificate. Also, to become a hairstylist, people require English
10-2 and applied math 10 or equivalent, or they must pass and entrance
exam. People wishing to work as a hairstylist also need to find someone
who will mentor them. There are schools across the province
that provide training (LIST THEM FOR YOUR REPORT!). It is clear that
there are a number of educational requirements that need to be met
before becoming a hairstylist.
Look at your research documents and find the LOCATIONS you can work as a hairstylist. Work on writing three to five sentences about locations around Alberta.
Here is an example of a body paragraph on locations:
The
job of a hairstylist can be found everywhere from large cities to small
towns. There are often job ads for hairstylists posted in local
newspapers. Also, schools for hairstylists will often know who might be
hiring. A great way to get a job is to go right into the salon you are
interested in working at. You can introduce yourself to the owner and
ask about their business. This makes a great first impression! Some
stylists rent a chair in a salon and others works as part of a hairstyling chain like Super Cuts. Others decide to work out of their
own home or start their own business. As long as people want their hair
styled or cut, there will be jobs in this industry!
Congratulations! You have just completed the entire body of your report.
You should now have the introduction and body of your report completed! Way to go! You are almost done the major report for this course.
