Lesson 15 — Activity 1: Assignment
Writing a Conclusion!
To review, the conclusion wraps up a report. The conclusion focuses on all the main points in your body and refers back to the topic statement stated in the introduction. It begins with a concluding sentence that signals to your reader that you are going to end the report. It then summarizes the main points you covered in your body paragraphs. One rule of thumb when writing a conclusion is to never include new information. Only restate what you’ve already written.
Let's get started!
Step 1
Write the first sentence of your conclusion.
You may write your own sentence or use one of the following starters.
1. In conclusion, ...
2. To summarize the information on my career ...
3. In summary, ...
4. As you can see, there is a lot to consider when researching a career in ...
Step 2
Restate the information covered in the report. This is a summary of the topics of each of your body paragraphs. Below is an example of what you might say. When you write your own sentence, put it into your own words.
Step 3
Write a statement that clearly indicates that your report is finished.
Your conclusion should
have two or three sentences. Finish the paragraph with a sentence that signals to your reader that you are completely done talking about your topic. Below is an example of what you might say. When you write your own sentence to end your report, write it in your own words.
The conclusion is the easiest part of the report to write. All you need to do is restate your topic, restate what you have already talked about in the body of the report, and end with a statement that lets the reader know you are done presenting information!
Remember to keep this assignment! You will need the information for the next step in the career research project.
