Completion requirements
In this assignment, show how well you understand the ways in which an author can use language to draw a reader into characters' experiences.
You may use a computer or paper to complete this assignment.

If you typed your work in a separate Word document, save your document, and either send it to your teacher as an e-mail attachment or print it off and hand it in to your teacher so it can be marked. Answer the following:
1. Find three sentences where the author has used specific words to reinforce the atmosphere of a scene or event. Explain what the atmosphere is. /3
2. Copy one short and one long sentence where the author has varied the length to achieve a specific effect. What is the effect in each case? /2
3. Copy one sentence where the author has misused punctuation to achieve a specific effect and explain what the effect is. /2
4. Copy one piece of dialogue that reflects a specific characterβs life and indicate specific words or phrases that do this. /2
