Pre-Assesment

Do these images look familiar? What is common in these pictures? Do the pictures show both living and non living things? Do they show both plants and animals? 

An ecosystem is a place on Earth where living things interact with other living things as well as non-living things.  

In Science, animals and plants are classified as living things.  Air, water, and land are classified as non-living things.

An ecosystem is like a puzzle where plants and animals depend upon one another. Plants and aimals depend on air, water, and land too.  An ecosystem does not work well if one "piece" or organism is missing.  The puzzle is incomplete.

A wetland is wet, wet wet!  It is a type of ecosystem where water covers the soil some or all of the time.  It supports both aquatic (water) and terrestrial (land) plants and animals.
