Assignment

There is a misconception that editing and proofreading means rewriting your entire essay. Because of this misconception, many students do not edit or proofread, and thereby miss out on opportunities for improvement and self-reflection. No one gets it right the first try! Draft writing is just that: a draft. It is expected that you'll be looking your work over and making corrections and providing clarity for your reader.

The fact is, editing and proofreading are key skills that are required in the workforce. Being able to reflect on your work and make improvements is something that will become second nature to you; it would not look good if you completed a job only halfway!

Follow the steps below to complete the 2.7b Critical Analysis Essay assignment.

Step 1 Read about Editing and Proofreading on pp. 111-112 in your English Language Arts Handbook for Secondary Students.
Step 2 Revise your draft using your peer's comments in the PQP process. Remember that Alberta Ed recommends 800—1600 words for CRTs.
Step 3 Read about Editing.
Step 4 Review the video on Editing Your Essay.
Step 5 Review the Proofreading tutorial, which includes Mohammed's reflection on the writing process.
Step 6 Edit and revise your draft using the Editing and Proofreading Checklist. Make sure that you've embedded or integrated quotes correctly and not quoted too much or too often.
Step 7 Submit your polished essay as a PDF or MS Word file.
