The Selections
- Do you remember the Body Organs lesson? Which body organ did you study? Was it the heart, the lungs, or the skin?
- Go back and reread the selection from Literacy in Action 5.
You have read scientific explanations in the form of a report and now an explanation in the form of a play.
Your assignment is to compare the explanation you read from the Body Organs lesson with the play How to Eat Like a Cat by completing a Venn Diagram.
Follow these directions for the Venn Diagram:
Your assignment is to compare the explanation you read from the Body Organs lesson with the play How to Eat Like a Cat by completing a Venn Diagram.
Complete the comparison by filling in the Venn Diagram with answers to the following questions.
- How are the two text forms the same and different?
- Identify differences in how they are illustrated or represented visually.
- How do these two ways of explaining serve different purposes?
- What effect does each form of writing have on your imagination?
Follow these directions for the Venn Diagram:
- Enter Your Name.
- Enter the project title. ("Comparing a scientific explanation and a narrative explanation")
- You will see a page with two circles. The green circle represents the scientific explanation and the pink circle represents the narrative explanation. The two circles overlap in the middle. This is where you put the similarities the two explanations have.
- Click on Add New Item.
- Click on Label Your Item.
- Type in your idea.
- Click on the checkmark.
- Your idea will appear.
- Drag your idea to the right location within the Venn Diagram.
- If your idea is true about the scientific explanation, drag it to the green circle.
- Example: If my explanation said that new technology is used for ID, I would place it in the green circle.
- If your idea is about the narrative explanation, drag it to the pink circle.
- Example: If my explanation said that there were characters in the drama, I would place it in the pink circle.
- If your idea says the two explanations are similar, drag your words to the middle so that they are in both the pink and the green circles.
- Example: If my explanation said that I enjoyed both selections, I would place it in the middle so it is in both circles.
- Click on your words to put them into place.
- Repeat the steps above with answers to all of the questions.
- Click on Finish.
- Save the work to your Documents folder and then submit it to the teacher.
