Trapped in Big Beaver
Trapped in Big Beaver is a real-life story about a boy and his dad in Big Beaver, Saskatchewan where the story takes place.

Predicting
Before reading the story, use the Predicting reading strategy for clues of what the story is about.
-
Read the questions in the small box in the upper left corner of page 10 in Literacy in Action 4A with the heading Predict. What are your predictions? You can find more information about the story that can help you to make predictions from the pictures on pages 10 & 11 of the boy, his dad, and the farm machinery called a combine.
Think about the title and details in the pictures and make some predictions about events in the story. Write your predictions on the Reader's Notebook: Trapped in Big Beaver.
- Look at the headings dividing the story into three parts: The Accident, James to the Rescue, and A Hero is Born. The headings also help you make predictions. Do you need to make any changes in the predictions on the Reader's Notebook: Trapped in Big Beaver? If so, make them now.
