Recounting a Story from a Picture
Recounting a story means to retell a story either in part or the whole story.
In this case, you will be imagining what story could be told to go with the picture you chose.
Use your imagination!
Instructions for this story planner and completed story recount:
- Choose one picture from pages 28 to 30 in the Literacy in Action 4A textbook which gives you some strong ideas for a story.
- Decide what you think happened. Remember a story has a beginning, middle, (Usually where the problem is revealed) and an ending, (Usually where the problem is solved).
- Use the Planning Page: Recounting the Story of a Picture to organize your ideas about the 5 W's, what the problem may be and how the problem is resolved.
- Be sure to include lots of juicy, descriptive words. (This helps draw a picture in the reader's mind.)
- Remember that your ending should, "Wrap up"the story or bring it to a sensible ending. This is usually where the problem in the story is solved.
- Read the Rubric below before you start so you know how your planner and story recount will be marked and what you need to do to receive the best mark.
- Use your planning page to guide the writing of your story recount and save to your Documents folder.
- Submit your completed planning page and your completed picture story recount as one complete, continuous file below.

How to save a file:

- Name your Planning Page in this format: jsmith_planning page_recounting_story and save the file to your Documents folder.
- Name your completed Story Page(s) in the same format as above: jsmith_recounting_story_page and save the file to your Documents folder.
Throughout the unit, you learned and practiced new concepts and presentation formats.
Now it's time to demonstrate or "sum up" your understanding of that information by submitting this assignment for a mark.
- Submit your Planning Page: Recounting the Story of a Picture and your completed Story pages Recounting the Story of a Picture to your teacher for marking.
- Click Add Submission to upload your document.
