Now you are ready to try your own!
How to create a Storyboard
Read the following information to create your original storyboard.
Your job is to create a storyboard in which the main character delivers at least three types of messages.
The Situation
- Imagine that you are walking down the street to your favourite store. Think about the different messages that you might see along the street and in the store.
- You may also see and talk to someone you know.
Storyboard Requirements
You must have the following information in your storyboard:
- at least three frames arranged in a sequence (as in the example)
- at least one character (yourself)
- at least three messages being delivered on your journey
- a caption under each frame to describe what is happening
Before you begin:
When you think you know what you want to say and include in your storyboard,

read the Storyboard Checklist first so that you know what to include
- review various types of messages in your Reader's Notebook
Now, begin creating your storyboard!

Choose from the following two options to create your Storyboard.

- Download the document Storyboard.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: When the download screen opens:
- Click the "Open with" button.
- Select "Adobe Reader".
- Click "OK".
- You will then be able to view the document Storyboard.

How to create a storyboard using StoryboardThat website
Follow these directions:
- Click here to access the StoryboardThat and begin by going to the FREE account tab and click on the TRY NOW button.

Here you are presented with a three panel story board. The top navigation bar allows you to choose Scenes, Characters and Textables.
- When you click on any of the above choices you can then choose what you want from the selection in the navigation underneath.

When you have the scene you want, drag it into the frame. Follow this same process to choose your characters and textables, bubbles.
- You add text by dragging and dropping the text bubble that works best for each scene you have created, and then writing words inside your speech bubble. You will need to do this for each frame.
- When you are finished save your work.
- Print your storyboard, scan and send it to your teacher.

How to save a file for submission:
- Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
- Select your Documents folder as the location to Save In.
- Name the document. You will always name your documents in a similar way.
- Use the first letter of your first name, followed by your last name, then an underscore (_), then the name of the file.
- In this case, the file name is Storyboard Assignment . For example, if my name is John Smith, I would name my file jsmith_storyboard.
- Click Save. Your chart is in your Documents folder.
- Submit your Storyboard Assignment to your teacher for marking.
- Click Add Submission to upload your document.
