U3L4 - 2020 Global Issues Project
NATIONAL AND GLOBAL ISSUES ASSIGNMENT
Some problems are huge but we're told "every little bit counts." Does it? How can little old you, Canadian teen, change the world?
Short answer is, you can't.
Longer answer is, you can't by yourself and by only doing little things. It takes movements to change the world and you can be part of one of those
Longer answers are always more optimistic.
So, with that in mind, your final project of 2020 will be to take a look at one of the following "global issues" and address them on an individual, national and international level. The categories are:
Climate Change
Human Rights
World Hunger
Reconciliation
Access to Water
(2020 Bonus) COVID-19
Pretend you are creating an exhibit for a virtual museum. Present your ideas in a format of your choice - documentary video, prezi, powerpoint, essay, poster, constructed project, interview, etc. If you have other ideas, please discuss with your teacher before moving forward.
These "exhibits" will have to include:
- Overview of the topic (make it as specific as possible, so not just "Human Rights" but a subcategory like "Women's Rights in Saudi Arabia" for example)
- Including things like: how long has this been an issue, how widespread is the issue, how many people are currently affected, how many people will be affected if nothing is changed, have their been any movements before that have tried to fix this issue?
- Individual solutions: What can YOU as an individual do to help solve this issue? If the answer is just "nothing" then maybe pick a different issue. Or if your answer is just "donate to charity" and then your charity is the international answer, you'll need to dig a little deeper for ideas. Feel free to reach out and ask!
- National solutions: What can Canada do? Just like individual ones, avoid "nothing" or repeating what your answer will be in the international section
- International solutions: What can countries (or international groups) do to solve this issue? Are there any organizations already setup to help this issue?
- Long-term prediction: What do you think will happen? Will it get better, worse? When?
Evaluation will be done using the following rubric
