If you are looking for a great family pet, you might think to get a German shepherd dog. German shepherds are very intelligent. They can learn how to turn door knobs or follow a trail. German shepherds love their owners. My dog Jack waits patiently at the front door every day until I come home. I am home late after basketball practice three times a week. Cats can be good pets. My grandma had three cats at one time. As well, Jack is usually suspicious of strangers. He will bark when anyone unknown is near his family. German shepherd dogs make a great addition to any family.

1. The main idea of this paragraph is that German shepherds make great family pets.

2. These sentences do not belong in the paragraph:
I am home late after basketball practice three times a week.
Cats can be good pets.
My grandma had three cats at one time.
3. They do not belong as they do not support the main idea about German shepherds being great family pets.

Paragraphs:

I live in an apartment with my family. We have a living room, kitchen, dining room, and two bedrooms. There are also two bathrooms. I get home from school around 4:00 and do my homework after having a snack. I got a new computer for Christmas last year. My two oldest brothers recently moved back home to live with us. The apartment is quite crowded, but I like having my whole family living together.

Saturday is my favourite day of the week. That’s the day my Dad and I watch football on TV. We usually start after lunch and check out which teams are on and decide which team we want to watch. Dad makes popcorn and I get the drinks sorted out. There are other sports to watch on other days. The sports channel has many sports to choose from. Lately, we have been joined by my Uncle Bob. He loves watching football just as much as Dad and I.

Jennifer is one of the best players on our baseball team. She hit two home runs in the last game. Jen is tall for her age. She enjoys eating pizza, especially pepperoni and mushroom. When the pitcher throws the ball, Jen can figure out where the ball will go in relation to the plate. She can also pitch and catch very well. We are so glad to have Jennifer on our team this year.
