Digital Photo Final Portfolio

Use your knowledge of the various visual composition elements to capture different types of photographs and create a portfolio of your work.

See criteria listed below to accurately complete this assignment.

Criteria

You are required to submit 20 of your own high quality photographs that demonstrate the following types of visual compositions:
- 2 photos which are examples of rule of third
- 2 photos of landscapes or architecture
- 2 photos with visual tension
- 2 photos exemplifying white space
- 2 photos showing balance
- 2 photos with unique points of view (not from a standing straight on view)
- 2 photos of portraits
- 2 photos with fast motion (fast shutter speed)
- 2 photos showing shallow depth of field
- 2 photos showing deep depth of field

Each Photograph will be Marked for: 

· Photograph Quality                                  /2
· Each Setting - Aperture, Shutter, ISO            /2
(The Tech Data Record PDF will assist you with tracking this. Be sure to include your final setting with your photo in your PowerPoint.)
· Light source & Examination of Mood                 /1
· Image Composition Category Explanation       /3
(Explain the composition category. Then specifically explain how and why your photo meets the composition criteria.)

· Challenges & Solutions Summary for Each Photo              /1
(Remember to include your Summary of Challenges & Solutions (adjustments) you made with your camera, lighting, etc, to achieve your final photo. Even professional photographers usually take several photos, making various adjustments to capture a high quality image. ) 
· Full Frame Photograph (Not cropped)                /1

This assignment will be out of 200 marks and is worth 50% of your final grade. Remember you must achieve a 50% or higher on all graded assessments to pass and gain credit for the course.

You will Need to Include the Following Information with Each Photograph You Submit:

· A record of all your camera settings (Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO) using the Technical Data Record Sheet. Then submit your completed Technical Data Record Sheet with your Final Portfolio PowerPoint.  
· Identify the light source and how it affects mood
· An explanation of why you have used the photo to represent the category you are demonstrating
· Identify any areas of challenges and solutions if applicable. If you have had to take more than one photo to get the shot you want, then you should have an answer for this question. Remember, even professional photographers usually take several photos, making various adjustments, to capture a quality image. For example, what camera or lighting change did you make to achieve the final photograph?
· A note of how many images, in total, were taken to get this one quality photograph
· These must be full frame photographs. Do not crop.

Final Portfolio Assignment  - Submission Format

This assignment can be submitted in various formats as a digital presentation (for example; power point, word). PowerPoint is recommended because it is the most user friendly when working with images and text.

If you need to use google slides instead of power point, you must create a shared link set with “Anyone” can view/edit your google slides (If you miss this step, your assignment cannot be viewed for assessment). Then submit this correctly shared link in Moodle. Please see the “Submitting the GDrive Document as a Link” PDF, below, for step by step instructions.

Things to Consider

· Don't use the automatic settings on your camera, instead use the manual settings and experiment to see what each one does and how it affects the image. Have fun with this because you never know what amazing image you may come up with while you are experimenting!
· Set the camera to ISO setting, which will allow as little digital noise as possible and yet gives you the most control over exposure.
· Consider which shutter speed selection will accomplish the required result. A faster shutter speed will stop motion and a slower shutter speed will create motion.
· Consider the speed of the subject when determining the correct shutter speeds to stop or blur the motion of the subject in your photograph.
· Understand that each shutter speed has an appropriate accompanying aperture for correct exposure. Consider using the shutter priority selection (if your camera has this setting). Therefore, the exposure should be automatically corrected for you when you select new shutter speeds.
· If you decide to use both of the manual shutter and manual aperture functions on the camera, ensure that your in-camera meter is not indicating over or under-exposure of the image.
· Consider your subject matter carefully for this assignment. With the aid of depth of field control, the subject will be in focus and well defined.
· Choose a subject that stands out from the background visually.
· Understand that each aperture has an appropriate accompanying shutter speed for correct exposure. Consider using the Aperture Priority selection (if your camera has this setting). Therefore, the exposure should be automatically corrected for you as you select new f-stops.

When you have completed the assignment, save it.  You are now ready to submit this assignment for marking.

2. Next drag your PowerPoint & Tech Data Record Sheet files into the “File Submission” section
3. “Save” changes.
4. Click “Submit Assignment” to complete your submission.
