Political & Economical Organization Project (T3)
What leadership qualities are admired in First Nations, Metis and Inuit Communities?
ย
What To Do:
1. Choose an Aboriginal leader of the past. You can select one from anywhere in Canada, but make sure you can find enough information about the person.
2. Using history books, the Internet or information from an oral tradition, examine the leaderโs upbringing and traditional education.ย IF possible, find out how the leaderโs personal experiences (as a hunter, spiritual advisor, warrior etc.) helped them assume a position of leadership.
3. Select a contemporary Aboriginal leader (preferably from the same cultural group or region as the historic leader you chose).ย This leader may be a politician, business leader or a community leader.ย Using books, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet investigate their upbringing and education, including both traditional and formal education.
4. In point form, note the major issues and challenges that each leader had to face.
5.Summarize the similarities and differences between the leadership qualities of the leaders you researched.ย Are there common characteristics that are reflected in both leaders?ย Be sure to include an analysis of why you think these similarities and differences exist.
Your summary can be done in different ways โ Essay, PowerPoint, Visual Presentation etc., but must include the research you have completed on your leaders.
