Writing Assignments Type #1  Are Fact Questions

This question will test your knowledge of specific concepts within all four related issues from the program of studies.

Sort, Knowledge and Attach Value

Suggestions for Succes

  • You will be given a visual prompt of either a: jigsaw or crossword puzzle, blocks, webs, etc
  • The material given will ask you to sort out what is the correct material and incorrect material
  • I recommend using a T- Chart to sort and separate the information.  If there is information that you do not recognize, put it to the side.  When you are done sorting the information you know, go back and see if the missing information makes more sense to you.  If not, do not use it in your response
  • Here is an example to get you started:

Characteristics of a Free Market Economy

Characteristics of a Planned Economy

路      Supply and demand

路      ?

路      ?

路      Government planning

路      ?

路      ?

  • You will be expected to write about what you know and PLEASE ignore what you do not know; if you cannot recognize the meaning of the prompts, you are better off using your own knowledge and not using the prompts at all
  • You may write about one characteristic or a selection of a few characteristics.  You may also explain why the incorrect concepts are wrong, so you can demonstrate your understanding by writing off the wrong information.  May recommendation would be to discuss two or three of the terms that apply.
  • When explaining why the terms are important to the concept be sure to use specific examples and case studies to support your response.  For example- when asked what the important characteristics of a market economy are in Canada you may want to give examples of how competition provides consumers with the greatest quality products for the lowest price.

  • What is the purpose of this assignment anyway?  When you are asked to explain your choices you are attaching value, and demonstrating critical thinking skills.  This is where you can bring in your knowledge of social studies
