M2 L2 Watercolour Painting
In this lesson you will learn the basic techniques of watercolour Painting, and complete a painting of architecture using those techniques. You will be able to show off your drawing in perspective skills (from M1) in this assignment too.
3. Resources
Here are 4 resources to help you with this lesson. Your teacher will also be leading on-site demonstrations of the techniques for those able to attend.
1) Your first resource is a booklet about watercolour painting. Please review it:
Booklet: Intro to Watercolour
2) This video demonstrates basic watercolour techniques. You are not asked to trace pre-cut squares as she does here (you can sketch freehand squares), but you will be asked to replicate each of these techniques. You may wish to follow along, working as she does. Pause will be your friend.
3) The next Video is one in a series of 7. You may watch one, or all seven. You may choose to paint along and submit what you create, or just watch, and submit your own architectural painting. The purpose of this video is to demo the steps. His brush releases water, you will need a cup of water on the side.
4) Unsplash is a site with thousands of images to use for your source. Try searching for 'unusual homes', 'front door images', 'architecture images', 'unique buildings'...
or use any architectural image you like as your source to paint from.
TIP: Removing paint from a watercolor painting made easy. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is loved by many watercolor artists because it can remove paint - even when it is completely dry - without damaging the paper.
