Stress

Stress and Chronic Inflammation

Does the term β€œfight, flight, or freeze” sound familiar? This is the body's reaction when stress is encountered. Fight, flight, or freeze responses are associated with increased levels of cortisol and adrenaline. Over time, if the stress does not go away, the sensitivity of the immune cells to cortisol is decreased. When the immune cells are not sensitive to the increase and decrease of stress hormones, the body is not able to regulate the inflammatory response and chronic inflammation can develop.
